History

In 1953 the First Presbyterian Church of Miami on Brickell Avenue sponsored a new mission to families in the expanding southern region of the city. In 1955 that mission was chartered as Pinecrest Presbyterian Church with 29 men and women and the Rev. Earl Downey, Pastor. Services and Sunday School in those early years were held in portables at Pinecrest Elementary School.

In 1958 the current site - which included the house that is now our office building - was purchased for $72,000. In 1960 the Sanctuary building was built. In 1962 the first Day School building was built, and our Day School opened its doors to children.

In 1974 a fellowship hall was built, then totally renovated to create five larger classrooms in 2004. Our new Worship, Performance and Fellowship Hall was completed in 2010 and houses two more classrooms and a larger performance hall and stage.

Our Church congregation is small in number but large in all we accomplish. Our Day School now serves more than 200 children in our Day School Program and our After School Care Program.

Pinecrest Presbyterian Church is a place where God is celebrated, children are nurtured, and everyone is welcome!
